Introduction to Stained Glass

Immerse yourself in this intense introduction to the Tiffany method of stained glass and go home with a simple window panel you made with your own two hands! Select from a variety of patterns and glass to create something you'll treasure forever.

This class gets a little physical and messy and may prove difficult for some so bring a patient spirit, your old work clothes and safety glasses. Learn the basics of glass cutting, copper foiling, soldering and framing using materials, tools and supplies provided. Personalized tool kits are also available along with additional glass instruction and a field trip to the local stained glass retailer for a broad overview of the varieties of glass and supplies available.

NEW DIMENSIONS: A 3-D Stained Glass Workshop

Sat, May 10, 2008, 9am – 4pm

Fee: $115 – includes all materials and supplies to complete the pictured projects

No glass cutting required! No previous experience required! Create three projects as pictured — a 2” tealite holder, a 4” triangular hinged lid trinket box and a 4”x7” lantern — using pre-cut glass, supplies and tools provided by the instructor. Students will simply apply copperfoil and solder to focus on learning the basic methods for creating 3-dimensional stained glass pieces. Students will leave with their finished projects and complete instructions and tips to take 3-D a little further on their own.

Cassandra’s Summer Art Camp

August 18 – 22, 2008 (Mon-Fri) 9 a.m- 3 p.m.

Fee: $220 full day / $120 half day

Art camp is at Homewood Studios, a beautiful art gallery in Minneapolis. The camp is open for students ages 7 - 12. The students will be given quality art materials and taught how to use them. Students will learn the all about color, shading, drawing and painting. They will also explore sculpture, maskmaking, papermaking and bookmaking. Students will be given much creative freedom to make amazing art that will be treasured for years to come!

Cassandra Monson is a professional artist and a freelance art teacher. Cassandra has a BFA from the College of Visual Arts and many years of teaching experience. She teaches art classes all over the Twin Cites and facilitates community-based collaborative public art projects and artist residences in public and private schools. Cassandra teaches students to invest themselves in the creative process so that they will build a quality product. She has a fluid but organized teaching style that works with children and adults of all ages. Cassandra teaches all art forms from painting to papermaking and sculpture to bookmaking. She is interested in facilitating collaborative work that incorporates history and culture in the artistic process.
